Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater!

Don’t breastfeed the baby in the restaurant!

Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater!

Wet the baby’s head!

We remembered and then we forgot.

And then we abandoned all the children

because we all forgot.

It’s not our fault

Sitting in white rooms

Restrained by our finances

The strings that we dance to

Back and forth from work

Words screaming at us

Petitions waiting to be clicked

Abandone a mis ninos

Sang the Spanish flamenco

Who abandoned his children for love

We have abandoned all of our children

We have abandoned them for the pub

To moan and groan about Europe

Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater

He is lying on the shore

Unmoving for all the world to see

Sing a lullaby

He is sleeping

We are all sleeping

Wake up

To meet the children

Who have sisters, brothers

And Uncles mothers

And Fathers cousins with

Friends and lovers

DH Lawrence filled with

Hate and spite for the rabble

Vindictive man-eating women

Urged us to stay together

Sons and lovers

Women in love

Lovers or mothers.

Don’t abandon the children

They could replace the race

With a more compassionate face

Empathy must not die

With the plight

Of the non-white

Don’t drain out the dirty bathwater

As in it there is empathy

There is the heart

There is life

Precious as any

Or none of us at all.
